In the industrial field, sealing technology plays a vital role in the normal operation of equipment. As a common sealing method, filler sealing is widely used in various mechanical equipment. Proper installation of filler seals can effectively prevent leakage and improve the reliability and safety of equipment. However, if installed improperly, it will not only lead to leakage problems, but also damage the equipment and affect production efficiency. Therefore, it is very necessary to understand the installation points and common errors of filler seals.

1. Installation points of packing seal

1)  Choose the right filler

The selection of filler should be determined according to the working conditions, media characteristics and sealing requirements of the equipment. Different fillers have different performance characteristics, such as corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance, wear resistance, etc. When selecting the filler, ensure that it is compatible with the medium and can meet the sealing requirements of the equipment.

2)  Check the sealing part

Before installing the filler seal, the surface quality of the seal must be carefully checked. The surface of the sealing part should be flat and smooth, free of scratches, cracks, burrs and other defects. If the surface is defective, it should be repaired or replaced to ensure the sealing effect.

3)  Cutting filler

The length of the filler should be cut according to the size of the sealing part to ensure that the filler can be tightly filled in the sealed part. When cutting the filler, sharp knives should be used to avoid burrs and cracks in the filler. At the same time, it should be noted that the incision of the filler should be at an angle of 45 degrees from the rotation direction of the shaft to reduce the wear of the filler on the shaft.

4)  Install the filler

When installing the filler, the filler should be loaded into the sealed part circle by circle, and the incision of each ring of filler should be staggered at a certain angle, generally 90 degrees or 120 degrees. The installation of the filler should be tight, and there should be no gaps or looseness. During the installation process, a special filler pressure cover tool can be used to press the filler evenly in the sealed part.

5)   Adjust the packing cap

The function of the packing cover is to press the packing to ensure the sealing effect. When installing the packing cover, the tightness of the cover should be adjusted so that it can ensure the sealing effect without excessive friction on the shaft. Generally speaking, the pressing force of the filler press should be moderate, and it is appropriate to have a slight leakage of the filler. When the equipment runs for a period of time, the packing will gradually wear out. At this time, the tightness of the packing cap should be adjusted in time to ensure the sealing effect.

2. Common errors in packing sealing

1)  Improper packing

If the selected filler is incompatible with the medium, or does not meet the sealing requirements of the equipment, it will lead to leakage problems. For example, in the environment of high temperature, high pressure and corrosive media, if ordinary filler is selected, it is easy to leak.

2)  The surface quality of the sealing part is poor.

If the surface of the sealing part is defective, such as scratches, cracks and burrs, it will affect the sealing effect of the packing. These defects will make it impossible for the filler to fit tightly to the sealing part, resulting in leakage problems.

3)  Non-standard packing installation

The irregular installation of fillers is also one of the common causes of leakage problems. For example, if the incision of the filler is not staggered, or the filler is not installed tightly, there will be a gap between the fillers, resulting in leakage. In addition, if the compression force of the packing cover is too large or too small, it will also affect the sealing effect.

4)   Improper maintenance during the operation of the equipment

During the operation of the equipment, if the filler seal is not properly maintained, it will also lead to leakage problems. For example, after the equipment is running for a period of time, the filler will gradually wear out. If the filler is not replaced in time, it will lead to leakage. In addition, if the shaft of the equipment is bent or eccentric, it will also affect the sealing effect of the filler.

In a word, the installation points and common mistakes of the filler seal are what we must know when using the filler seal. Only by correctly installing the filler seal and avoiding common mistakes can we effectively prevent leakage and improve the reliability and safety of the equipment. In practical application, we should also constantly summarize experience and improve installation methods and maintenance measures according to the specific situation to ensure the sealing effect of the packing seal.
