PRECAUTIONS AND TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS WHEN USING MECHANICAL SEALS

As for the technology of mechanical seal, there are many types, such as water pump mechanical seal, double mechanical seal and pump sea. Mechanical seal is a device of high-speed rotating machinery, which includes centrifugal pumps, centrifuges, and compressor. As high-speed rotating machinery, mechanical seal calls for a large variety of well-qualified and advanced elements to guarantee its efficiency.


Taking the products from the Haga as an example, with advanced technology and skilled personnel, all of them are best choices when making use of the technology of the mechanical seal. These products are qualified enough to have the advantages of less leakage and longer service life to keep efficient and durable.

Coming to the application of mechanical seal, the seal ring is the most important component of the mechanical seal. The sealing ring determines the performance and life of the mechanical seal to a large extent.

Therefore, there are some requirements for it.


Firstly, under working conditions (such pressure, temperature, etc.), the sealing rings should not be damaged and the deformation of them should be as small as possible. Also, the tightness should be maintained when the working conditions change. In particular, the ends of the sealing rings must have sufficient strength and have resistance  against corrosion to ensure that the service life is satisfactory.

Secondly, the seal rings should have good resistance against thermal shock. For this reason, the thermal conductivity of the material is required to be high thermal conductivity, so that it will not crack when subjected to thermal shock.


What is more, the sealing rings should have a small coefficient of friction.

Thirdly, the sealing rings should be self-lubricated. If dry friction occurs for a short time during work, the sealing rings will not be damaged. Therefore, the seal ring must be self-lubricated and the wettability of material and seal fluid must be good as well.


Next, the structure of sealing ring should be simple and symmetrical and the monolithic structure is preferred. Combined sealing rings can also be used, and the spaying structure of sealing rings should be avoided as much as possible.


Finally, the seal ring should be easy to manufacture and the installation and maintenance should be also convenient and inexpensive.


In terms of installation, mechanical seals are machinery with high accuracy, and the installation and operation have a great impact on their service life.


The technical requirements for the installation are as follows.

1. Be careful when installing and removing the mechanical seals. It is strictly forbidden to use a hand hammer or so to avoid damage to the sealing elements. If the scale cannot be removed, it should be cleaned before disassembling

2. If mechanical seals are used at both ends of the pump, we should care about both of them during assembling and disassembling to prevent each of them from possible damage and accidents.

3. For the mechanical seal that has been running, if the cover is loose and moved, the elements of rotary and stationary rings must be replaced, and they should not be tightened and continued to be used.Because the friction after loosening will change the original trajectory, the sealing of the contact surface will be easily damaged.
