Precautions for Installing Rotary Joints

When installing rotary joints, the following precautions should generally be noted:

1、 The device should be clean and bright.

The parts of the rotary joint, related machinery and equipment components, utensils, lubricating oil, and wiping materials (cotton yarn, white cloth, silk, etc.) should be very

clean. The sealing end face of the dynamic and static rings should be wiped with white or soft gauze.

2. Chamfering and rounding.

The chamfers of shafts, sealed end caps, etc. should be trimmed and lubricated, and the relevant rounded corners of shafts and end caps should be sanded and polished.

3. In the device, it is necessary to apply turbine oil or No. 10 engine oil to the auxiliary sealing ring, shaft, and end cover, especially on the sealing end face of the dynamic and static rings, to reduce friction and avoid damaging the sealing end face of the static ring.

4. Device auxiliary sealing ring

(1) Rubber assisted sealing rings should not be soaked or washed with gasoline or kerosene to avoid swelling, deformation, and premature aging.

(2) After installing the O-ring on the dynamic or static ring component, it should be arranged smoothly and not distorted, so that the burrs are in a free cross-sectional state.  O-ring seals with slightly coarse burrs can still be used.  However, attention should be paid to the orientation of the burrs. When pushing the component, one side of the O-ring should slide relative to the sealed part, and the burrs on the left side should be located behind the sliding direction. Otherwise, the burrs will flip up and be in the sealing position, affecting the sealing effect.

(3) When pushing components, it is important to prevent damage to the O-ring seal.

The primary forms of damage include chipping, cracking, impact, curling, and distortion.

5. Adjust the tightening amount of the rotary joint spring according to the skill requirements. Otherwise, if the tightening amount is too large, it will increase the end face pressure ratio and accelerate the end face wear. If it is too small, the dynamic and static ring end face pressure ratio will be insufficient, and the seal will fail.

6. The static ring component should be installed into the cover using a press or drilling machine, and under no circumstances should any impact force be applied to the rotating joint parts or components.  The pressed surface should be covered with clean paper or cloth to avoid damaging the sealing ring.

7. After assembling the dynamic or static ring components, manually press the compensating ring to check if it is assembled properly, if it is sensitive, and if the elastic opening ring is positioned reliably.

8. Check if the straightness between the sealed end and the axis centerline meets the requirements

9. The anti rotation pin lead of the static ring component should be precise. When pushing the static ring component, the pin groove of the component should be aligned with the pin. After pushing it in place, the distance between the component end face and a certain end of the sealing chamber should be measured to determine whether the device is in place.

10.When tightening the end cap with bolts, apply even, symmetrical, and careful force, and tighten it in several times. Do not tighten it at once to avoid deviation or even crushing the static ring.

11. After the moving ring device is installed, it is necessary to ensure that it moves sensitively in the axial direction on the shaft.
