WHAT IS A MECHANICAL SEAL AND ITS PRINCIPLE?

Mechanical seal is a device of high-speed rotating machinery. The shaft runs through the inside and outside of the device. In this way, there is a circumferential gap between the shaft and the device. The medium in the device leaks out through this gap. If the pressure inside the device is lower than atmospheric pressure, air will leak into the device. Therefore,  there must be a device to stop the leakage. At this time, a device using the technology of mechanical seal is needed to prevent fluid leakage.


The technology of mechanical seal takes use of a device of shaft. What is more, it comes into an effect for that the sealing surfaces keep good fitness under the pressure and the elastic force of the compensation mechanism.

During installation, great care must be taken to avoid deviations during installation.

Tightening the gland should be performed after the coupling is aligned, and the bolts should be evenly supported to prevent the end of the gland from deviating.


We should check the clearance between the cover and the outer diameter of the shaft which should be uniform. Check that the tolerance of each point is not greater than 0.01 mm with a feeler gauge.


The compressed distance of the spring should be determined according to regulations and an error of 2.00 mm is required. If the distance is too large, it will increase the specific pressure on the end and cause abrasion. If it is too small, the pressure will be insufficient and the sealing is not enough.


In order to ensure the stable operation, service life and low leakage of the mechanical seal, it is very important to install it properly.


When installing the mechanical seal, we should carefully read the directions before installation to make sure that components have been prepared. At the same time, we should also pay attention to whether there are any abnormalities such as scratches and defects on the seal ring or so. If any abnormality is found, the element must be replaced or repaired before use.


During the actual installation, we should not bring unnecessary parts to the site. In this way, if there are any remaining parts after installation, there will be a fault during installation.
