WHY DO WE CALL IT A GASKETS?

WHY DO WE CALL IT A GASKETS?

The gasket is made of paper, rubber sheet or copper sheet. It is a material placed between two planes to strengthen the seal. It is a sealing element placed between the static sealing surfaces to prevent fluid leakage. Gaskets play an important role in sealing. Do you know what types of gaskets are available?

Definition of gasket

Gasket is a mechanical seal between two objects. It is usually used to prevent pressure, corrosion, and natural expansion and contraction between two objects. Since the mechanically processed surface cannot be perfect, irregularities can be filled with a gasket. Gaskets are usually made of sheet materials such as pad paper, rubber, silicone rubber, metal, cork, felt, neoprene, nitrile rubber, fiberglass or plastic polymers (such as polytetrafluoroethylene). Gaskets for specific applications may contain asbestos.

The washer is a hole in the thin plate (usually round) (usually in the middle) and is usually used to distribute the load threaded fasteners. Other uses are as spacers, springs (Bellville gaskets, wave gaskets), wear-resistant gaskets, pre-display devices, lock devices. Rubber gaskets are also used in faucets (valves) to shut off flowing liquids or gases. Rubber or silicon gaskets can also be used to reduce fan vibration. Usually the outer diameter of the gasket is about twice the inner diameter.

The classification of gasket material

Gaskets can be divided into non-metallic gaskets, metal gaskets, and metal-nonmetal composite gaskets according to their material and structural characteristics.

The parts of the gasket between the connecting piece and the nut are generally flat metal rings. Non-metallic gasket made of asbestos, rubber, synthetic resin, polytetrafluoroethylene and other non-metallic gaskets. Non-metallic jacket gasket Non-metallic jacket gasket is covered with a layer of synthetic resin. Semimetallic gasket gaskets made of metallic and non-metallic materials, such as spiral wound gaskets and metal-coated gaskets . Spiral wound gasket Spiral wound gasket made of metal band clips with V-shaped or W-shaped cross-sections and non-metallic bands.

Metal gasket gasket made of metal such as steel, aluminum, copper, nickel or monel alloy. Wound gasket refers to a gasket that is wound into a ring shape with a metal belt and a non-metallic belt. The metal belt and the non-metallic belt are alternately wound. Because of its good elasticity, It is widely used in the flange sealing structure of petrochemical, chemical, electric power and other industries. Depending on the specific location, a steel ring can be added to the inner or outer layer of the gasket to position or strengthen.

With the rise of modern industry, especially modern petroleum, chemical industry, atomic energy industry, and large power stations, gasket sealing occupies a very important position in modern industrial enterprises. The quality of the seal is directly related to the continuity of production, the safety of property, energy saving and environmental protection, and the physical and mental health of people. Therefore, the development of gaskets is getting more and more attention. Follow us to learn more about gaskets .
